We recently highlighted an article that disparaged unlicensed Group Homes. In it, they wrote of one owner in particular that overcrowded his homes, encouraged his tenants not to take their prescribed medication and took advantage of his tenants.

There was no mention of the countless other Sober Living Homes in the area that provided great service and helped the community!

Today I want to highlight an article showing the positive, life changing effects that a Group Home can have on it’s tenants. Probably some of the reasons that brought YOU to us in the first place!

“That is what the non-profit house has done for the last 45 years. It has welcomed the addicted, the scared and the lost. The historic two-story white house in the Highland neighborhood has helped thousands of women not only find freedom from their addictions but gain control of their lives.”

“Oakwood achieves this by starting with the basics, which means following the rules, that the residents are expected to follow. There are a lot and they are not easy, especially for those who have lived their lives in the chaos of addiction.”

“We were all in the same boat, we were all learning to live sober,” Richie (tenant) said.”

“Little by little, she was discovering who she was without the drugs. She knew her daughter needed her more than ever and realized what she had been missing out on by not taking responsibility.”

“Since Ritchie left in October of 2016, her life has been a series of accomplishments, proving that it has been the right path. She has an apartment where she lives with her daughter.”

In addition to the Grants, Donations, and revenue from their banquets, the Oakwood home also charges each tenant $80/week.

They do not release how much they receive from Grants, Charity etc. but my guess is that is much more than the revenue charged to their guests.

The home has been open for 45 years, has a non-profit set up, and most likely has a ton of connections in the area.
